Five ways to make your dream a reality in 2018

Since I was a little girl I dreamed of visiting Paris.  In my small east texas town I was one of the very few that took French lessons in school instead of Spanish.  I knew one day I would be skipping down the cobblestone streets in my burette asking the nearest Frenchman to help me find the best macaroons in the city.

At 18 years old, I printed pictures of Paris and put them up all over my apartment.  Every holiday it seemed someone would buy me a photo of Paris or a mini Eiffel tower statue (all of which I still have today).  I wondered if I would cry tears of joy all the way there, or if I would be flying there with the love of my life (who hopefully had a beautiful ring in his carry-on), and what I would wear to grace the streets of Paris.

A dream, that is what Paris was to me and I believe everyone is full of these little dreams.  I didn’t know how I was going to get there, or when, but everywhere I looked around me I was surrounded by exactly where I wanted to go.  Now, Paris is one of many dreams I have, but it proves that what you keep before your eyes you move towards.

For my 30th birthday I went to Paris for the first time, and with another dream in tow.  See, my dream for the Texi Boot cowgirl boot line had been alive since I was 19.  And isn’t it ironic that I was carrying three Texi Boot designs in my carry-on so I could do a Paris photoshoot (living a dream within a dream).

People see the pictures and the fairytale, but it’s what they don’t see is the work it takes to make a dream a reality.  What is one dream you want to make a reality in 2018?

I ask because I can’t tell you what to do, but I can tell you what I’ve learned from experience that helped a few of my dreams become tangible products and experiences I will cherish for a lifetime.

I read the book, Dream it, Live it, Pin it by Terri Savelle Foy (click HERE to get a free chapter) and applied it to my life.  You need the book-it changed my life, but here is a little snip-bit of what I did.

So, you have a dream (I can’t wait to hear about it!!!!):

Step One:  Google a picture that reflects this dream and save it to your phone.

a)    Make this photo your screensaver on every electronic device you have.  Print 3 pictures that reflect this dream and put them somewhere you will see them every day.  Suggestions: bathroom mirror, fridge, nightstand.

Step Two:  Set a date.

a)    Pull out your 2018 calendar and mark out the date that you will do, buy or accomplish this dream.  If it’s someplace you want to travel request the time off for work, set up the babysitters, dog sitters, plant-sitters and put it in your calendar.  If it’s a product you want to create, mark the date in your calendar that you will hold the first prototype in your hand.

Step Three:  Pull out a white sheet of paper and brain dump.

a)     If it is something as simple as booking a trip you need to write out what it’s going to cost (identify that number).  If it’s a product youre creating, write down every step you think you need to do along the way.  If it’s a saving goal, map out your current budget and see where you can cut back and how much per month you can set aside to save and then you know if you need to start looking for other revenue generating opportunities.  Write out everything.  Leave out no detail, even if what you write has a question mark behind it (that’s ok, this is for you).  There is an INCREDIBLE release and power that comes from putting what is in your head on paper.  You may need five sheets of paper or 10 or only half a sheet, but write down the steps that you know are necessary.  Book flight.  Pick Resort.  Set aside $500 a month.  Research manufactures.  Call manufacturers.  Visit a local tradeshow.  Find investors.  Schedule meeting.  Create website.  Form LLC.  -> every dream has different steps and that’s what makes each so powerful.

Step Four: Prioritize your white sheet.

a)    Put it in order of the steps you need to take and by when to stay on target for your goal.  Put those dates in your calendar so you stay on track.  You must check yourself monthly to stay focused and remain realistic in how close or far you are.

Step Five: Do those steps.

It’s the dreamers that keep their goals before their eyes and have a realistic approach to how they will work towards it daily/weekly that find themselves with tears in their eyes as they live out dream after dream after dream.

You are worth it.  Let’s dream up something beautiful for 2018…
